The blend of Shiraz and Viognier is nothing new. Its spiritual home is in the Northern Rhone, where Viognier lends its aromatic perfume to the big, lush Syrah’s of the region. Australia also blends the two, with bottles most commonly coming out of South Australia. The grapes are fermented together, and the result is a deep, dark wine filled with savoury notes of pepper and cedar and lifted with Viognier florals like rose and violet. Bright crimson in colour, with luscious and exotic aromas of cherries, boysenberry and hints of white pepper and violets. A full bodied palate that is framed by flavours of sweet Turkish delight and cherries. Velvety tannins provide a perfect complement to the cherry ripe finish which shows the synergy between the Shiraz and Viognier.
Enjoy with beef skewers or Moroccan spiced grilled eggplant covered in sautéed ripe tomatoes, chilli and fresh herbs.
