Introducing our Rhône Valley Taster 6-bottle Case, a curated selection showcasing the diverse terroirs with six distinctive crus from the North and South of the Rhône Valley.
Established in 1818, Maison Calvet is a venerable French winemaker with a rich legacy rooted in the Rhône Valley. Jean-Marie Calvet’s vision took shape in Tain l’Hermitage, where the family’s commitment to winemaking excellence began. Today, Maison Calvet’s presence in the Rhône Valley reflects the region’s diverse terroirs, crafting wines that capture the essence of this renowned viticultural area.
With a focus on traditional vinification methods, Maison Calvet’s Rhône wines showcase the signature grape varieties of the region, such as Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. The reds, with their robust structures and well-integrated tannins, exhibit the unique character of Rhône terroir, delivering rich flavours of dark berries and nuanced spices.
1x Calvet Vacqueyras 2021. Named after the “Valley of the Rocks,” Vacqueyras wines, neighbouring Gigondas, are Grenache-dominant. Initial small red fruit and violet aromas evolve into licorice, pepper, and spice over time. This wine, a harmonious blend of Grenache and Syrah, epitomises the Rhône Valley’s finest attributes. Grenache contributes a juicy, fruit-forward quality, while Syrah introduces depth, spice, and structural integrity.
1x Calvet Vinsobres 2020. Nestled in Vinsobres, the stony soils embrace heat, cultivating vines that yield highly concentrated grapes. The outcome is a collection of delicious reds with bold character. The 2020 vintage earned recognition with a silver medal and an impressive 92 points at the IWC Awards 2022. A classic blend of Grenache and Syrah, this wine unfolds with rich notes of black cherry, blackcurrant, chocolate, and spicy garrigue herbs. Its robust character makes it an ideal pairing for herby roast lamb. Maison Calvet continues to craft wines honouring tradition while embodying the excellence that defines the Rhône Valley.
1x Calvet Lirac 2021. Situated on the opposite bank of the Rhône from the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac shares many similarities but stands out for its accessibility. The wines from Lirac typically embody the classic southern Rhône blend, showcasing Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsaut. The majority of production, around 85 per cent, consists of full-bodied red wines. This particular wine is an outstanding representation of the Syrah and Grenache blend. Expect vibrant notes of mulberry and blueberry intertwined with hedgerow, damson, and earthy undertones. The experience culminates in a smooth and savoury finish, making it a compelling choice for those seeking the distinctive character of Lirac wines.
1x Calvet Crozes-Hermitage 2021. As the largest production area surrounding the famed Hermitage AOC, Crozes-Hermitage, experience the classic essence of the region with a perfumed nose featuring pepper spice and a meaty, gamey complexity. This deep red wine, adorned with a garnet rim, unfolds a soft yet rich and well-balanced taste, accompanied by hints of ripe cherries and plums, leaving a pleasant aftertaste. This versatile wine complements a range of dishes, from fried meat and roast beef to salads, pasta, and pizza. Elevate your dining experience with this exceptional wine’s nuanced flavours and aromatic richness.
1x Calvet Saint-Joseph 2021, the largest Northern AOC, indulge in the robust allure of Northern Rhône Saint-Joseph 2021 Syrah, characterised by its deep red hue. This wine unfolds with an intriguing blend of spiciness reminiscent of cherry notes and subtle hints of oak.
1x Calvet Gigondas 2021. Nestled in the heart of the Rhône Valley, Gigondas AOP is renowned for its robust and full-bodied wines. Crafted primarily from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, Gigondas wines boast rich flavours of dark berries coupled with nuanced notes of spices and herbs. With a robust structure and well-integrated tannins, these wines showcase the region’s unique terroir. Gigondas AOP wines are often considered a powerful and age-worthy alternative to their more famous neighbour, Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
