The Blaauwklippen Reserve Cabernet Franc 2019 is a distinguished wine from one of Stellenbosch’s oldest wine farms, founded in 1682. Nestled among ancient blue granite boulders on mineral-rich mountain slopes, the estate is committed to producing authentic wines that capture the essence of country living.
In the winemaking process, the grapes were meticulously handpicked and then transported to the cellar for processing. Whole berry fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with twice daily pump-overs to ensure the gentle extraction of tannins. The grapes had an extended skin contact time of approximately 21 days before pressing. Following this, malolactic fermentation occurred in 300L French oak barrels, with 29% being first-fill French oak barrels. A careful barrel selection process was undertaken to create the final blend, choosing only the best barrels.
All of this amounts to sumptuous red fruit and cassis aromas, accompanied by sweet cinnamon, violets, and delicate cedarwood nuances. The palate showcases textured velvet tannins with a sweet mid-palate weight, leading to an elegant and aromatically focused finish with a lasting impression.
