One sunny day, while enjoying a few beerzies, three Marlborough-based winemakers came together to embark on a unique venture—creating wines under the singular brand, Vandal. This “side project” grants each member the freedom to craft wines that may veer into unconventional territory, but rest assured, at the core of the Vandal ethos is the commitment to making wines that are incredibly enjoyable and easy to appreciate.
This isn’t your typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. There’s plenty of acid and plenty of fruit, but this is funky, modern, young, interesting – not your mum’s savvy. Sourced from 35-year-old vines in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys, this Sauvignon Blanc is hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented with full solids in seasoned French oak. It spends 6 months on its lees, undergoing 100% malo-lactic fermentation, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result? A vibrant wine with citrus, pear, zesty lemon, lemongrass, and a hint of fennel. It’s crisp, zesty, and a unique twist on the classic.
