America’s best-known wine regions lie along the Pacific coast. Regions close to the ocean are greatly influenced by it, just like in New Zealand. These regions tend to be cooler, with fresh ocean breezes and morning fog. Their wines feel brighter on the palate with firmer tannins and fresh fruit flavours. Inland areas are warmer and drier and tend to produce richer wines with tropical fruit notes.
Freakshow Chardonnay 2020 ( California) Introducing the Freak Show Chardonnay 2020, a stunning expression of the classic varietal from Michael David Winery in Lodi, California. With its rich, buttery texture and bright, fruit-forward flavour profile, this wine is the perfect addition to any wine lover’s collection. The Freak Show Chardonnay 2019 grapes are sourced from the Phillips family’s vineyard in Lodi, known for its warm days and cool nights, which are the ideal growing conditions for Chardonnay. The grapes are carefully selected and fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve their bright fruit flavours before being aged in French oak barrels for added depth and complexity.
Castle Rock Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 (Central Coast, California) is a multiple award-winning Chardonnay from some of California’s finest Central Coast vineyards. It’s elegant with a rich, ripe fruit character, delicious blending of vanilla, pear, citrus, melon flavours, and subtle oak undertones. The wine ends with a long, balanced finish. It is an excellent accompaniment to fish, chicken, and light pasta dishes.
Knotty Vines Pinot Noir 2019 (California) A darker, more sumptuous take on Pinot Noir, this wine retains its careful complexity while dripping with richness and flavours of black cherry, vanilla, and oak, culminating in a smooth and lingering berry-laden finish.
Castle Rock Pinot Rosé 2020 (California) Produced from grapes grown in Monterey County. Harvested in the cool of night, the grapes were sent directly to press to pull just enough colour from the skins to achieve the delicate hue. The wine is crisp, fresh and floral, with bright acidity and aromas of violet and rose petals. On the palate, it is supple and harmonious, with flavours of strawberry, raspberry, and citrus, and it has a smooth lingering finish. Perfect for drinking on its own, it also accompanies salads, light pasta dishes and seafood.
Freakshow 6th Sense Syrah 2019 Dark violet in hue, velvety aromas of black cherry and plum laced with espresso and toasted marshmallow fill the nose. Full-bodied flavours of ripe raspberry, black liquorice and clove carry the wine through its lingering, spice-laden finish. A claimed favourite varietal to both Michael and David Phillips, Syrah was first planted by the brothers in 1982 after falling in love with wines produced from the grape on a trip through southern France. This vineyard, located just a hop, a skip and a jump from the winery, is one of the earliest plantings of Syrah in California.
Knotty Vines Red Blend 2018 (California) The indulgent confluence of Merlot, Malbec, Zinfandel and Petit Verdot results in a velvety blend of ripe plum, coffee, black cherry and chocolate flavours with a smooth, rich finish.
