Tuscan wines are renowned for their exceptional quality and are predominantly produced in the Tuscany region of Italy. They encompass a wide variety of styles and grapes, but the most famous is Sangiovese, the primary grape used in wines like Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Tuscan wines are celebrated for their rich, robust flavours and often feature notes of cherry, plum, and earthy undertones. These wines can range from approachable and fruity to complex and age-worthy, making them a favourite among wine enthusiasts around the world.
Introducing a captivating trio of Tuscan wines, each with its unique character and allure:
Badiolo Chianti DOCG 2021 Crafted primarily from Sangiovese grapes, this wine offers a delightful array of fresh cherries, strawberries, and red plums, creating a pleasing sensory experience. Aged for over a year in oak barrels, with an additional four months of refinement in bottles, it exhibits a dry yet rounded flavour, boasting freshness and charm. This wine truly captivates the senses with an intense fragrance, a persistent nose, and a captivating ruby-red hue.
Banfi Belnero Toscana IGT 2013 Aged Sangiovese from the southern hills of Montalcino, Italy. The Castello Banfi ‘Belnero’ has been made to last and is drinking perfectly now. It’s labelled as a Toscana IGT (rather than well-known Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Chianti), meaning other grapes can be added if required. In this case, a hint of both Cab Sauv and Merlot were used to top up the Sangiovese, bringing a floral, berry and rich spice aroma to the blend. It’ll lend itself well to the usual suspects like roast pork belly, rich tomato-based stews or with your favourite pate on your weekend charcuterie board. Smooth and silky from start to finish. Gentle aromas of vanilla and coffee with a hint of jam leads to a rounded body with a robust structure and fine tannins.
Oro Italiano Toscana IGT Bianco 2020 A taste of an Italian summer without leaving your couch! We’ve managed to get our hands on this exciting bottle straight out of Tuscany. It’s made from a combination of Malvasia, Muscat and Trebbiano, the expert winemaking allowing each grape to bring its own flavour profile and style to the blend. It’s intensely tropical but also has a herbal side with notes of fresh-cut green grass and thyme on the finish. The mouth feel is rich while also being fresh and crisp. If you’re a fan of white wine, then we encourage you to try this one. You might just find your new favourite! Drink now. Delicious to enjoy on its own or with white fish and white meat. Malvasia, Muscat, Trebbiano grapes. 12.5 % abv.
